# Use BigModel.io with Roo Code

> Connect Roo Code to BigModel.io with the OpenAI Compatible provider and base URL https://bigmodel.io/v1. Roo Code was archived in May 2026; Cline is recommended for new setups.

Web version: https://bigmodel.io/docs/roo-code · Updated 2026-10-18

Roo Code's **OpenAI Compatible** provider works with BigModel.io the same way Cline's does: Chat Completions on `https://bigmodel.io/v1`.

> Roo Code was archived on 2026-05-15. The final release is v3.54.0 and it gets no more updates, although it is still listed on the VS Code Marketplace. For a new setup, use [Cline](https://bigmodel.io/docs/cline) (or Kilo Code) instead; the provider fields are almost the same.

| Field in Roo Code | Value |
|---|---|
| API Provider | OpenAI Compatible |
| Base URL | `https://bigmodel.io/v1` |
| API Key | your BigModel.io API key (`sk-...`) |
| Model | a model ID from the [model catalog](https://bigmodel.io/models), e.g. `glm-5.3` |
| Model configuration | Max Output Tokens, Context Window, Image Support from the model page |

## Configure the OpenAI Compatible provider

1. Open the Roo Code panel in VS Code and click the settings (gear) icon.
2. Set **API Provider** to **OpenAI Compatible**.
3. Enter **Base URL** `https://bigmodel.io/v1`. Do not add `/chat/completions`.
4. Paste your key from [API Keys](https://bigmodel.io/keys) into **API Key**.
5. Enter the exact model ID, for example `glm-5.3`, `kimi-k3` or `deepseek-v4-pro`.
6. In the model configuration, set the context window and max output tokens from the model page, and enable image support only if the model accepts images.
7. Save.

Roo Code only uses native tool calling, so the model must support OpenAI-style `tools`. Pick a model whose page lists tool calling.

## Verify the setup

Start a task with a short prompt such as "list the files in this folder". The reply should come from your model, and the request should appear in [Usage](https://bigmodel.io/usage).

## Moving to Cline

Cline's OpenAI Compatible provider uses the same Base URL, key and model ID. Copy those three values and the context window from Roo Code into Cline as described in the [Cline guide](https://bigmodel.io/docs/cline).

## Troubleshooting

**503 `api_error`: `No available accounts: no available accounts supporting model: ...`.** The model ID does not match a model your key's group serves. Copy it exactly from the model page.

**404 on every request.** The Base URL must be `https://bigmodel.io/v1`, without `/chat/completions`.

**401 `INVALID_API_KEY`.** The key was pasted with spaces or was deleted. Copy it again from [API Keys](https://bigmodel.io/keys).

**Tasks fail at the first tool call.** The model does not handle OpenAI tool calling well enough for Roo Code's native tool mode. Use a model with tool calling, or switch to Cline.

**403 `INSUFFICIENT_BALANCE` or 429 `API_KEY_QUOTA_EXHAUSTED`.** Top up in [Billing](https://bigmodel.io/purchase) or raise the key's quota.

**A bug that a newer release would fix.** There will be none: the project is archived. Move to [Cline](https://bigmodel.io/docs/cline).
